Our Mission

Our mission is simple: We want to help young people and our community by tackling important issues like health, food access, and social connections. We also work to record, preserve, and share the unique stories of our community members.

Our Vision

We believe in the power of food and heritage to bring people together and create a positive change. That’s why we’re building a local and international support program that uses these tools to help those in need, while also celebrating the traditions that make us who we are.

About us

LGK in the community as we are known is a charitable organisation that uses food as a vehicle to assist the needy. Established in 2014 from a pop up traditional Greek taverna we have since grown to be a an established 3rd sector organisation that runs a series of projects and fundraisers to assist people suffering from serious chronic and life-threatening conditions.

Our story

LGK in the community which stands for Lakis Greek Kitchen, was set up in memory of me, Lakis Panayiotou.

I started to build a taverna in my garden in Great Barr, Birmingham, and it resembled my unfinished taverna in my village in Cyprus known as Potamiou.

Unfortunately, I got sick with lung cancer and I lost the fight in 2012. I wasn’t able to finish my restaurant.

Now, we have managed to finish the project and open up a pop-up Greek Taverna every May and June of each year.

Also, we run all year-round programmes using the power of food to make a difference in the world.
