Homemade Bread

Ingredients

  • 500g strong bread flour
  • 7g dried yeast
  • 2 teaspoon salt
  • 300ml warm water
  • 5 tablespoons olive oil

Method

Pre-heat the oven to 200C/180C fan/ gas 6.

In a large mixing bowl add the flour, salt and yeast and mix until all combined.

In a jug add the warm water and mix with the olive oil.

Slowly incorporate the liquid into the flour mixture.

If using an electric mixer mix for 5/6 minutes.

If mixing by hand, knead for approximately 10 minutes.

Leave to prove for 1 hour in a lightly oiled bowl covered with clingfilm.

Once it has doubled in size, knock it back by re kneading for a few minutes, leave to prove for a second time for approx. 15 minutes.

Roll into either one large ball or small individual balls.

Using a knife cut an incision onto the top and sprinkle with flour and put into the preheated oven for approx. 20 minutes.

You can check if cooked by taping the base of the loaf, if it sounds hollow then leave to cool before eating.
